PAGCS Wins MET Tournament

The 36th Annual MET Team Championship was held on Monday, September 26th at The Country Club of Scranton in Clarks Summit, PA. For the fourth time in the past 12 years, the PAGCS team came away victorious after narrowly beating Connecticut GCSA by just one stroke with a score of 292! The team from Philadelphia included John Gosselin, Andy Drohen, Joe Owsik and Chet Walsh on the Gross side and Rich Sweeney, Jon Urbanski, Sumner Cross and Rob Nolek on the Net side. The PAGCS would like to recognize Lawn & Golf Supply for sponsoring this year’s PAGCS MET team! Many thanks!

This year’s championship was one of the closest battles ever contested, with just six shots separating the top five teams! Once again the MET Team Championship was made possible by seven major sponsors who have stepped up year after year to make this one of the best events across North America: Aquatrols, BASF, Bayer, Care of Trees, Koch Turf & Ornamental, Syngenta and Toro as they continue to support this event.

The Met Team Championship continues to raise money each year to help those in our industry going through difficult times. Over the past 6 years, the tournament has raised over $7,500 and has supported superintendents, industry representatives and their families in times of need. This past year, $2,000 was donated to the superintendents at The Greenbrier in West Virginia after the devastating flooding that took place there this summer.

Thanks again to all sponsors, as well as Greg Boring and his entire staff and all the folks at The Country Club of Scranton for another successful championship! Host Greg Boring, who recently took on the role of General Manager on top of his Superintendent duties had the golf course in absolutely spectacular shape after one of the driest and hottest seasons on record in the Northeast.

A special thank you to Shaun Barry, perennial photographer! Shaun’s photos can be viewed here:

PAGCS Day at Walnut Lane Proves Huge Success

In an effort to help the future of golf, PAGCS members donated their time and resources on Monday, October 3rd, to run the graden on the greens at Walnut Lane GC. Coordinated by Bill Corcoran, PAGCS Board member, the work was initially planned to span two days. Courtesy of the donations of PAGCS members, both in terms of time and product, the project was completed in less than one full day.

Many thanks to everyone who sacrificed members of their staff to make this event a success: Lehigh Country Club, Bala Golf Club and Merion Golf Club. Special kudos to Charlie Koennecker of Finch Services, along with partners John Deere and Wiedenmann USA, for lending enough equipment to get the job done so efficiently. And to Bala and Jay Parisien, CGCS, a special shout out for all the donated seed! Also a huge debt of gratitude goes to Mike Janzer of Plant Food for all the hard work he did to make this event a success. Please visit our Facebook page for more photos of this great day: PAGCS1925
