Ed Roynan to Receive 2006 Eberhard Steiniger Award for Distinguished Service

The Philadelphia Association of Golf Course Superintendents [PAGCS] is pleased to announce the selection of Ed Roynan as the 2006 winner of the Eberhard Steiniger Award for distinguished service in the golf turf management profession. Ed will be presented with the award at the PAGCS year-end Gala celebration on November 10th.

Ed Roynan is retiring after nearly four decades as a superintendent, the last 35 served at Limekiln Golf Club. During his tenure at Limekiln, Ed added nine holes to the course and rebuilt the original 18 in accordance with a master plan to improve maintenance and playability.

Ed's service to the golf turf maintenance industry is legendary. He has been vice president, president and newsletter editor [9 years] for the PAGCS. He also served on boards and committees of the Pennsylvania Turfgrass Council [PTC], the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America [GCSAA], and the Penn State Extension Service of Montgomery County. In fact, Ed dedicated over 20 years to the extension service, including terms as vice president and president, and GCSAA awarded Ed with their membership growth award in 1986.

The Eberhard Steiniger Award, first presented in 1990, is awarded to a turfgrass professional in the Philadelphia Region who exemplifies the spirit of Eberhard Steiniger, CGCS. Eb Steiniger dedicated his life to the game of golf by advancing the profession of golf course superintendent. Longtime superintendent at Pine Valley Golf Club in Pine Valley, NJ, Eb's innovative research, mentoring of future superintendents, and professional involvement locally and nationally have made him a legend in the profession.

As an Eb Steiniger Award recipient, Ed Roynan has been nominated by his peers and joins a group of only 14 other turf professionals who represent the "best of the best" in the industry. Ed will be formally presented with this award during the PAGCS year-end Gala celebration to be held November 10th at the DoubleTree Hotel in Wilmington, DE.
